Every customer loves unique products! Creative florist Bettina von Hollen shows you how to stand out from the classic funeral decorations - and with remarkable ease. The clever combination of succulents with purple and black felt creates a work of art that may seem sophisticated at first glance, but is actually quite uncomplicated to create.
For this work of art, the timeless mourning colour black and the powerful garnet red were combined. This gives the mourning jewellery an extraordinary depth and symbolically serves as an expression of respect, dignity and love for the deceased.
Amidst these dark felt tones, green succulents have been placed to create a refreshing contrast and represent growth, hope and the permanence of life, even in times of grief.
It is up to you to adjust the colours according to your own taste and thus set individual accents – bring your creativity to life and design this work of art according to your ideas!
Step by Step
Step 1: Cut the felt
Take the wool felt «Klausi» and cut out small squares of about 5 cm. If you are working with different single-coloured felts, repeat this step for each of the felt colours you are using.
Step 2: First basting stitch
Fold the felt in the middle and adjust the piece of felt with a little dexterity so that you have two roughly equal parts. Then fix the fold by placing a basting stitch in the lower centre. If you are working with plain felt, you can overlap several colours at this point and then continue with this step.
Step 3: Second pinning
Take the stapled felt in your hand so that it lies in a V-shape in front of you. Then take one half of the felt and fold it in half again. Make sure that the resulting fold has the opening facing outwards. To fix it in place, you must also make a precise basting stitch above the fold.
Step 4: Arrange the straw wreath
In the first step, cleverly insert the wool unwinder into the straw wreath so that the two ends of the wreath point upwards like a bowl. Make sure you hit the centre of the half-round exactly to ensure a stable position. Next you can attach the felt pieces to the straw wreath using the needle pins. Deliberately leave the centre free so that you can fill it in other creative ways later.
Step 5: Filling up the middle
Fill the empty centre with the dried flowers and succulents. Make sure that no space is left empty and that the straw wreath is cleverly covered.
Final step
Add an extra touch to your memorial jewellery by decorating it with a cross. Simply take two thin metal rods of different lengths and cleverly connect them with a binding wire or wool thread. This final embellishment will turn your piece into a unique and meaningful work of art.
