Decorative Christmas tree made from sheep's wool felt "Gitti"

Bettina von Hollen presents something enchanting for the festive season: a decorative Christmas tree made of sheep's wool felt in red and white. The tree perfectly captures the atmosphere of the Christmas season. The classic, nostalgic shades of red and white are complemented by natural decorative elements such as pine cones and wood in shades of brown, giving the Christmas decoration a timeless elegance. A work that delights florists and their customers alike.

The colour effect of Red in Christmas pieces exudes warmth and passion, while White creates a pure and peaceful atmosphere. Brownespecially in wooden elements, adds an earthy and cosy touch. Greenoften represented by plants or fir branches, lends freshness and connects the decoration with nature.

Together these colours form a Harmonious ensemble that evokes nostalgic feelings and emphasises the festive mood - a perfect mixture for a heart-warming Christmas atmosphere.

Step by step

Step 1:
Cutting felt strips

For the woolly Christmas decoration, Bettina first cuts the "Gitti" sheep's wool felt to size in red and white. With a width of a good 7 cm, this ensures that the decoration will be clearly visible from both sides. Approx. 3 m of both colours are needed.

Step 2:
Connecting felt strips

Next, glue the two felt strips together with double-sided adhesive tape. Make sure that the jute grid is on the outside and remains visible. This creates a nostalgic, Christmassy red and white colour combination.

Step 3:
Thread on felt

Now take a long aluminium rod and make a small rounding in one side of the rod. Start threading the felt strips onto it, the rounding ensures that the threaded felt does not slip away. Insert a wooden bead after each strip of felt to ensure stability and spacing. Start with small loops of felt and gradually increase in size to create the appearance of a fir tree.

Step 4:
Christmas filling

Now insert the aluminium skewer into a base. Bettina has stylishly drilled a hole in a piece of tree and placed the woollen tree on top. Now fill the resulting loops with Christmas decorations: small Christmas baubles, various cones, cinnamon sticks or dried orange slices: Anything that is Christmassy and you like is allowed! Fix the decorations in place with hot glue.

Step 5:
Finalise decoration

You can add the finishing touch to your homemade decorative tree with a string of LED lights. To finish off the treetop nicely, glue a handful of white wooden beads here too. Let braided woollen cords made from brown, white and red "smart thread" dangle from the top to finish off the decoration.
